ZACATECAS

During the Mexican Revolution Pancho Villa himself captured this colonial city during the Battle of Zacatecas. Today Zacatecas is a Unesco World Heritage Site and a favourite stop along the "Ruta de la Plata" or Silver Route. Because of the pink stone that many of its iconic colonial buildings are made of and the silver that has spurred its development and history, some describe Zacatecas  with the phrase: "Con rostro de cantera rosa y corazón de plata.". Translated, this means: "With face of pink stone and heart of silver.".
